04/18/23 - What Jim scored this week - April 8-15, 2023

04/18/23 - What Jim scored this week - April 8-15, 2023

Side note - I've been fortunate enough to see a number of players I saw “migrate” to coaching and teaching positions. It is always a pleasure to see them.
Thank you all for your commitment to education and high school athletics.
Thanks also to the umpires!

Hits / Errors are as I thought at the time
ERA - often just a guess
SO - DO NOT PUT MUCH STOCK IN ANY OF THIS!
PS - week day 4pm double-headers - I will probably leave after game 1, I don't care for darkness impacted games (and I get up early in the mornings!);

*Bedford “production” - 7 Bedford batters had RBIs, 8 sccored runs.

#Monroe 13 (SEC/Red), Saline 4 (SEC/Red) - Wednesday 04/12/23
Saline HS Varsity Baseball Stadium; Clear, windy;
*v Monroe (13R-18H-4E-9Lob); SP/WP-22/Kelton Roberts (3.1ip, 17bf, 2R/2er, 4H, 2BB, 6K, 1-HBP); P2-13/Brady Welch (1ip, 7bf, 2R/2er, 4H); P3-42/Breylon Richards (2.2ip, 11bf, 0R, 3H, 1BB, 1K); 2H (5/Owen Yount; 24/Noah Miller; 42/Breylon Richards-3; 3/Carson Liedel; 9/Drew Scznsny-3; 2/Logan Loveland; 1/Drake Leach); 2RBI (42/Richards; 3/Liedel; 10/Ryan Sieler; 9/Scznsny; 1/Leach); 2B (5/Yount; 42/Richards; 3/Liedel-2; 9/Scznsny);
*H Saline (4-11-5-10); SP/LP-Matt Mareno (4ip, 23bf, 6R/3er?, 9H, 4K); P2-3/Zachary Fidh (1.1ip, 9bf, 4R/2er, 4H, 1K); P3-21/Ian Furlong (1.2ip, 11bf, 3R/3er, 5H, 1BB, 1K, 1-HBP); 2H (2/Caleb Tousa; 9/Kristofers Sydlowski; 18/Mack Notar-3); 3B (11/Jackson Muir); 2B (23/Hunter Easton; 21/Ian Furlong);
*Jim's notes:
*Saline pitchers only walked one batter - good control, make the opponent put the ball in play;
*Many of Monroe's runs were unearned, I don't think it mattered as far as who won, but you can't give up runs - either by walks, hit batters or errors;
*Monroe got hits, runs and RBIs up and down the order;
*Saline got 11 hits, but only one for an RBI with 2-out - 2 runners left at third and 3 runners left at second;
* * *

#Dexter 10 (SEC/Red), Tecumseh 9 (SEC/White) - 8 innings - Thursday 04/13/23
Dexter HS Varsity Baseball Field; clear, warm
*v Tecumseh (9R-4H-2E-8Lob); SP/nd-8/Jobe Benschoter (4.2ip, 24bf, 5R/3er, 7H, 2BB, 6K, 1-HBP); P2-17/Max Bledsoe (1ip, 9bf, 3R/3er, 5H, 1BB, 1K); P3/LP-28/Kaeden Noe (1.1ip, 11bf, 2R/2er, 3H, 1BB, 1K, 2-IBB); 2B (9/Tanek Bagrowski);
*H Dexter (10-15-2-11); SP/nd-1/N Fernando (2.1ip, 13bf, 5R/4er, 3H, 3BB, 2K); P2-25/Nathan MacDonell (1/3ip, 4bf, 0R, 0H, 3BB); P3-8/Brock Komaromi (1.1ip, 4bf, 0R, 0H, 1K); P4-13/Ben Pitts (1ip, 7bf, 3R/1er, 1H, 1BB, 1K, 1-HBP); P5-2/Garrett Sharp (1/3ip, 4bf, 1R/1er, 0H, 3BB); P6/WP-15/Aidan Cassidy (2.2ip, 9bf, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 4K); 2H (24/Joey Tessmer-3; 12/Davis Bennett; 2/Garrett Sharp; 9/A Rye; 4/Larry Salisbury-3); 2RBI (12/Bennett); 2B (24/Tessmer; 18/Noah Pitts);
*Jim's notes:
*Dexters 11 walks and 1 hit-by-pitch kept Tecumseh in the game, account for 4 of Tecumseh's runs.
*Tecumseh allowed 5 runs with 2 out (if I figured correctly);
*Tecumseh had trouble on bunt defense - it's not a real sacrifice if the defense doesn't record an out;
*While Tecumseh did not get a lot of hits they took what was available and scored 9 runs.

#Chelsea 7 (SEC/White), Lincoln 6 (SEC/Red) - 8 innings - Saturday 04/15/23
Wayne R Welton Field at Chelsea HS; partly cloudy, pleasant;
*v Lincoln (6R-12H-3E-10Lob); SP/nd-TJ Rollins (5.1ip, 28bf, 4R/3er, 4H, 3K, 3BB);P2/LP-12/Aidan Sullivan (2.1ip, 12bf, 3R/1er, 4H, 1BB); 2H (7/Jayden Ramsey; 18/Caleb Butler; 21/David Jones; 11/Braydon Keelan; 15/TJ Rollins); 2B (21/Jones15/Rollins);
*H Chelsea (7-8-5-8Lob); SP/nd-3/Max Herter (4ip, 21bf, 4R/2er, 7H, 1BB, 4K, 1-HBP); P2/WP-20/Jimmy Sciackitano (4ip, 18bf, 2R/1er, 5H, 1BB, 1-HBP); 2H (3/Max Herter; 20/Jimmy Sciackitano); 2RBI (3/Herter); 2B (3/Herter; 20/J Sciackitano; 4/Jason Skoczylas);
*Jim's notes:
*Chelsea got all 8 hits in the last 4 innings (5-8)
*Lincon recorded 10 outfield outs (7 by 7/Jayden Ramsey);
*13 runs scored between the two teams but only 6 walks (and 2 hit-by-pitch);
*In both lineups almost every batting position contributed hits, walks, sacrifices or RBIs (8 of 9 for Lincoln, 9 of 9 for Chelsea - I think!);
*Chelsea scored 3 runs with 2 out, including the game winner, Lincoln 1 (I think).
*Lincoln had several runners out on the bases - 2 picked off, 1 thrown out going 1st to 3rd and a double-play on an infield popup - on the other hand Lincoln runners advanced on a number of wild-pitch / pass balls;
