(8) Adrian Post 275-4, Midland Berryhill Post 165-0 (Friday 08/03) - Jim's stats
*Adrian (4-11-0); SP/WP-12/Carey (RHP; Tecumseh/14; CG/9ip, 0R, 1H, 1-BB, 5K, 92 pitches); 2H (22/Britt (Tecumseh/13-Toledo); 18/Powell (Tecumseh/12-West Virginia Wesleyan); 1/Eldred-3 (Tecumseh/13); 9/Lolley (Adrian/12-Siena Heights)); 2RBI (1/Eldred); HR (18/Powell); 3B (22/Britt); 2B (1/Eldred);
*Berryhill (0-1-0); SP/LP-18/Mayle (RHP; Midland Dow/11-Kellogg CC; 8-1/3ip, 34BF, 4R/4er, 11H, 1-BB, 1-HBP, 8K); 2nd-4/Moody (RHP; Alma/13; 2/3ip, 2BF, 0R, 2K);
*Jims Recap - A ton of excitement for me - I'd seen many of the Adrian players in high school - often on opposing teams - and it was fun to see them put together a good game across the board. Phil Carey (Tecumseh/14) pitched for Adrian against Chad Mayle (Midland Dow/11-Kellogg CC). For eight innings Mayle gave up 2 runs on 6 hits as Adrian led 2-0, but Carey gave up only one baserunner in the same stretch (a single to Michael Wright (Midland/13)). Adrian started with a solo homerun by Jared Poswell (Tecumseh/12-West Virgina Wesleyan) in the second and an RBI single by Eric Eldred (Tecumseh/13) in the fourth. In the top of the ninth Adrian got 2 runs on 5 hits - a leadoff triple by Jacob Britt (Tecumseh/13-Toledo), groundout, infield hit by Jared Powell, RBI single by Eric Eldred, a single by Gage Lolley (Adrian/12-Siena Heights) and an RBI single by TJ Baker (Clinton/14). Berryhill had a last try with Steele O'Boyle (Bullock Creek) getting a 1-out walk in the ninth, but Alex Goodwein (Midland/13) flied out after an 8-pitch at-bat to end the game. PS - no errors by my accounting.

Fort Dearborn scored 1 in bottom of the third - Cameron Calhoun (Dearborn/12) doubled, Andrew Buzzeo (Dearborn/12) advanced Calhoun with a single and Steven Santostasi (Divine Child/12) drove in Calhoun with a sacrifice fly; then Fort Dearborn tied the game in sixth with back-to-back leadoff singles by Michael Chodzko (Dearborn/12) and Christopher Shirley (Divine Child/11) followed by an RBI groundout by Caleb Abston (Dearborn/12). Chief Pontiac scored 2 runs in the top of the eighth - David McNeeley (Holly/12-Olivet) walked, Tyler Rogers pinch-ran and stole second and scored on Blake Ordiway's (Holly/12-Alma) RBI single, Ordiway taking second on the throw home; following a walk an infield error advanced Ordiway to third and he scored on Nick Mazzone's (Clarkson/13) sacrifice fly. Chief Pontiac's Tyler Owen got the first 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth, but a walk and hit batter put the tying runs on base - then with the runners going a popfly by Santostasi fell safely, one run scoring easily - a hasty throw to the plate went wide as the tying run scored and with Santostasi heading to second the throw to second went wild (all the way to the centerfield wall) as Santostasi came around with the winning run. Chief Pontiac was eliminated by the loss.
